This morning I took off with Laurel to hunt for "happy camp" jade, not a true jade, but a pretty pale green stone that's mined in the area. We took off in her jeep wrangler to a spot on Indian Creek and waded up and down the stream looking for the stone.
It was a beautiful sunny day with a light breeze, great for wading. We spent several hours in the water and then headed back toward town. On the way, we spotted some apple trees on the side of the road, and decided to pick a few. We braved the blackberry brambles and endured their thorny branches to reach the tree and its treasures. Later this week I hope to make an apple crisp from our takings.
Here's a large piece of the jade that I'll bring back and put in our courtyard. Lots of fun!
