Adventure

It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power" Alan Cohen

Flora and fauna of Alaska

June 30, 2016 - Thursday

I have taken so many pictures of the flowers and plants we’ve seen so far in our travels, I thought I’d devote a post just to some of my favorites.  Enjoy!

Off the grid on the Kenai Peninsula

Saturday, June 25 through Monday, June 27, 2016 Start: Anchorage, AK  End: Seward, AK

Saturday morning we took off from Elmendorf AFB and headed south to the Kenai Peninsula.  The Seward Highway is some of the best scenery we’ve had the whole trip.  The views are just too large to really capture in a picture.

I got a lot of video that I’ll get to some day and put on youtube.
We stayed in Seward at a dry camping spot overlooking Resurrection Bay.  I can sit a look at the view of the water way and the mountains all day.

Exit Glacier
Sunday was another gorgeous day in Seward.  Overcast but none of the rain that was predicted.  We had a quiet morning and went to Exit Glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park.  About a one mile trail to see the glacier up close (still a quarter of a mile away).  Quite a spectacular work of Mother Nature.

Monday was our last day in Seward.  We went over to the SeaLife Aquarium.  It was built with funds from Exxon-Mobil after the Valdez oil spill.  It’s a fantastic research and rehabilitation center for wildlife with some very nice exhibits.  We saw a sea lion, otter and spotted seals and got to view some birds up close and personal!

In the evening I went on a short dinner cruise to Fox Island.  I got some nice shots of the Exit Glacier from the water.  Afterwards we packed up for leaving the next morning.

Tuesday, June 28th thru Wednesday, June 29, 2016 Start: Seward, AK  End: Bertha Creek C.G., Seward Highway, AK

We stopped at this campground along the creek for Mike to do some prospecting.  It was a perfect day, light breeze, the creek running clear, sunshine and green all around.  Alaska just keeps getting better as the summer progresses.
